Saving you time and increasing your inventory accuracy was at the foremost of our thoughts when we began developing a new feature for Phoenix for Windows called Mobile Inventory.

The goal was to give the retailer the ability to scan a merchandise item, verify the shelf pricing, and adjust the quantity on hand right on the floor. And with rental products, scan the product ID and verify the retail price, shelf location, category, and pricing category.

With the use of a handheld device and a wireless network, we will be able to bring to you the next level of merchandise management.

This breakthrough discards the old ways of performing a merchandise physical inventory, whether doing count sheets or using a portable data collector to gather the data and reconciling within Phoenix. Now you do the inventory right on the spot and as you check each merchandise item, that item is reconciled instantly.

What’s even better is that you don’t have to tie up long-consecutive hours scanning every item into a portable data collector. You can start and stop the process at any time, because each item is reconciled as you go.

Another benefit of this mobile inventory is the ability to do pricing checking right on the floor. Simply scan a product’s UPC and the current pricing in Phoenix is displayed on the handheld device. Then simply compare the retail price with your shelf-pricing sticker and make adjustments as necessary.

The Mobile Inventory system connects to your Phoenix database through a wireless connection. Even if your system is “hard wired” your router may have a wireless card built in. Many of the routers used in today’s networking have both hard wired and wireless access and are very affordable.

The system requirements for Mobile Inventory are:

• Phoenix Version 10.0.14 or higher
• A wireless access point to your network

The Mobile Inventory system includes the handheld device, battery charger, and the Mobile Inventory software.  

Taking A Look Inside The System

The Mobile Inventory system was designed with you in mind and gives you the ability to take inventory and perform price checking right on the floor. No more do you have to bring the merchandise to the computer; now you bring the computer to the merchandise.

The hand held device has a built in (laser) barcode scanner and interfaces with Phoenix via a wireless access point on your network. Most routers these days have both a hard wire and wireless ports, which makes integration simple.

For your merchandise, you can quickly see the description, the retail price, and what Phoenix thinks is the quantity on hand. If an adjustment is needed, you simply type in the new (physically counted) on hand value and the system takes care of updating the record in Phoenix.

By displaying the retail price of the merchandise item, you can quickly check your shelf pricing against the pricing you have setup on the computer.

Customers have a way of moving inventory around and your clerks may not always know where a title goes. With the Mobile Inventory system, you can scan a copy of a title and the system reports back the shelf location, genre, and pricing category.

The retail price and the status of the copy are also returned when you scan a barcode. While the retail price can be checked against the price tag on the item, the status will show you whether this title is marked for “sale”, “rental”, or “both”.

The magic that ties this altogether is in the wireless network and the monitoring module inside of Phoenix for Windows. This module keeps track of incoming requests from as many handheld units as you need from within your store making instant inventory a reality.

The Mobile Inventory system requires a wireless network access point and Phoenix version 10.0.14 or higher.
